The Eco-Schools programme is a way to engage schools in promoting environmental awareness by encouraging both pupils, staff and parents to make a positive change in their surrounding environment. Eco-Schools endeavours to extend learning beyond the classroom and develop responsible attitudes and commitment, both at home and in the wider community.

The programme can help schools to:

  • Reduce energy and water use
  • Recycle properly in the correct bins
  • Promote a healthy lifestyle - healthy lunch and break, as well as plenty of exercise
  • Plant fruit and vegetables in the Polly Tunnel
  • Reduce litter and waste

Its participatory approach and combination of learning and action make it an ideal way for schools to embark on a meaningful path to improving the environments of schools and their local communities,

Eco School also provides an opportunity for children to come up with ideas on how to improve the environment as many young people care about it and want to help.

The pupils in Denamona are keen and enthusiastic to make changes in their environment and bring ideas to the committee about the action needed to improve on these. Our Eco-School council is made up of children from Year 4 to Year 7 and their pictures are displayed to the right.

The school has been awarded the Green Flag Award which is displayed in the hall.
